The CABRI Policy Dialogue on: Value for money in agricultural value chains - Strengthening Public Finance Management Systems in Malawi last October, addressed the nexus between agriculture value chains, climate change and youth employment for sustainable and resilient development inclusive of the most vulnerable women and men.

Monica Basemera Kigongo, Head of the Programme Coordination Unit at TeamUp Uganda, was one of the speakers for a session on, "Aligning Public Finance with Agriculture and Agrifood System Priorities".

Africa is home to the youngest population in the world with 420 million youth. The majority of Africa’s youth are employed in the agriculture sector, due to limited growth of jobs in the formal sector. Only 15% of Africa’s youth are in formal wage employment, with the rest either in vulnerable employment, unemployed or inactive.
