CABRI is hosting a 4-day framing workshop for the Building Public Finance Capabilities for Health (BPFCH) Programme in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Building on CABRI’s flagship BPFC programme, the BPFCH programme, funded by The Global Fund, recognises that public finance and health financing reforms are most effective when problems are identified locally, and solutions emerge from a process that considers countries' administrative, political, and economic contexts. The programme aims to foster a productive partnership between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health, where they find practical ways to work together.

Africa often speaks of needing more money for its health programmes; however, studies have shown that health systems can only improve through domestic resources if money is spent effectively and efficiently. In her opening remarks Dr Nertila Tavanxhi, Senior Manager: Health Financing Country Support at The Global Fund, encouraged the ministries of finance to observe value for money and fiscal ceilings and urged the ministries of health focus on patients’ needs and outcomes.

Throughout the framing workshop, participating country-teams Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Tanzania, along with their coaches and the CABRI Public Finance team, will discuss ways to address complex public finance issues in healthcare, applying the problem-driven iterative adaptation (PDIA) approach.
